Description: This session will address emotional issues specific to adopting an older child. Issues in behavior and attachment will be discussed. Methods on dealing with specific older children issues will be discussed and taught.
Learning Objectives:
1. Session attendees will be able to identify and describe emotional behavioral issues specific to older adopted children.
2. Session attendees will be able to describe, compare, and contrast different methods in dealing with older children emotional issues.
3. Session attendees will be able to explain emotional issues associated with Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, and Neglect in Older child Adoption.
Intended Audience: Mental and behavioral professionals; adoptive parents of older children; parents interested in adopting from countries with older adoptable children available.
Intended Audience Level: This session is intended for beginning to intermediate level professionals.
